Just when you think you have seen it all in the world of vehicle innovation. Something new comes along and reminds you that these tech inventions have just started.

Although this Flow model is nowhere near mass production, the idea is awesome to marvel at.

One thing that I can never get enough of is Tech. Another topic I always keep my eye out for are the new vehicles that continue to come out. I don’t think it’s financially smart to switch out cars every time something new comes out or even every few years. However, if that’s what makes you happy then do what makes you happy as long as you can afford it and it doesn’t hurt your wallet. Hey, this is your Luxe Life right. Lol

If you are the type of vehicle buyer who can never seem to decide on the color when buying a new vehicle, there may be a solution for you coming soon. BMW, by the way they are one of my favorite vehicle Manufacturers, will hopefully be releasing a vehicle that allows you to change the color of your car with the click of a button. The technology is here, and they are the first ever to create it.

You know there has been a trend around for a while for people to get their vehicles wrapped in any color to customize the look they prefer. Even something fun like Gold or Platinum Silver. This is an expensive process for both getting the vehicle wrapped and then the removal process.  Each service will cost you thousands of dollars if being done by a reputable professional.  You don’t want to have this done by the wrong person, as this can cause you more problems than it’s worth in the long run. I do think getting your car wrapped is a great alternative than getting your vehicle painted, plus it protects the original paint.

Ok so let’s get back to BMW. As of now this is a concept car and it is truly amazing, unbelievable even.  They’ve been working on what they call this E-ink option for years.  They debuted the IX model with the E-ink Flow technology at the CES Expo earlier this year.  Can you imagine driving down the road and all the vehicles are switching colors around you. Not only does the vehicle change color but also the color of the rims can change.

The E-ink Flow option I assume would be available on all models if they bring it to consumers for mass production.  Can you imagine how this will catch on to every product. I assume if they have a patent for this they can license this to so many manufacturers.  Not just cars but think about it planes, boats, houses, skyscrapers and the list goes on. Imagine your walls at home changing color at the click of a switch. So interesting.

What’s also worth mentioning is the model they debuted with this feature. The all electric BMW iX SUV base model will have a starting retail price of $83,200 as of today. With upgrades this model will go into the six figure range.  They are taking pre-orders on their website.  To me the shape is similar to the Tesla X, however, it is more boxier.  It appears to be closer in size to the x5. So the iX  xdrive50 model can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It will also come in a Mach model of course. The Mach iX M60 model can go from 0 to 60mph in 3.3 seconds. Depending on the model it will have a range from 280 up to 324 miles on a single charge. The Tesla X ranges about 350 miles per charge.

Bmw will also offer 2 years of complimentary charges on the go with Electrify America stations. I don’t think Tesla even offers free charging with a new purchase but I believe they used to in the past as an incentive.  We all know how some of these vehicle prices seem to change with the wind in today’s current vehicle market.

Needless to say I have my eye on this model.

BMW states on its website “The body is laminated with an electrophoretic film containing microcapsules the diameter of a human hair. Each capsule contains differently charged white, black or coloured particles which become visible when an electric field is applied. This creates what is known as an Electronic Paper Display (EPD).”

Some very cool features of this iX model include crystal seat controls, a crystal start stop button, crystal volume control and an infotainment crystal round dial. For all of us crystal lovers that have crystals foe good energy all over our homes, we will feel right at home in this vehicle.

As much as I love hearing about these new concepts and tech advance in vehicles, I always say the same thing. It’s just something else to go wrong. I mean really. What happens if one if these capsules that changes color goes out, or a panel of capsules go out? How much does that cost to repair and who is responsible, will it be covered in the warranty?  Well either way the risk may be worth it to you for the time you spend changing your vehicles color in a split second. Either way until this comes to market we can all just dream about it.
